Summer Scrap Metal

Summer Scrap Metal

Well it is almost officially official..Summer is here..at least in common man terms, memorial day has come and gone and most families across America call this summer and hit the road for much needed time away. If your a scrapper by enthusiasm or by trade, it does not mean you take a sabbatical away from making money..it is actually time for summer scrap metal. What is summer scrap metal? Easy enough, it is where we continue to find scrap even as we may be enjoying our summer breaks.

Summer Scrap Metal

Our first stop on the summer scrap metal tour is also a favorite for many scrappers and collectors, it happens to be our beaches. Millions of people visit our beaches every summer and you may not believe this, but Americans lose or throw away over $62 million in coins every single year. Much of that loss comes at the hands of the sea, lakes and shallow shorelines. SOme people make it their own scrapping journey by using metal detectors as well as small shovels to comb over 90 thousand miles of shoreline throughout the United States.

The basics of shoreline hunting are simple, find a metal detector you can afford. Like most technology and tools of the trade, start small and work your way up from there. Also find yourself a small lightweight shovel for digging, plenty of items you find are junk to small to sell. Also, know going forward, it is the small gains that add up, finding Spanish Galleon lost gold isĀ  not (well not probable at least) going to be found. What you will find roughly 3 feet in, and up t0 10 feet into shore, aer lots and lots of small trinkets such as rings, watches and other small pieces of jewelry folks have lost in their final splashdown at the beach.

Just remember to stay safe and watch your plunder!
