So we have created a list of different items you might want to have on hand to create your first piece of scrap metal art.

Tools Used to Create Scrap Metal Art

To convert scrap metal into nice artwork, your toolbox or shop should be equipped with the following:
– Basic metalworking tools such as snips and cutters (and gloves, don’t forget gloves)
– Holding tools
– Welding, torching tools
– Bending machines or possibly bending tools or hammers for shaping
– Power tools such as a grinder
– Safety equipment like goggles and did I mention gloves
Most of these items are affordable and can be found online at Amazon or other large online retailers.
The next area to look at is what actual metals to use and where to get them:
– Metal pieces from scrapyards or junkyards, start small on your first piece and go from there.
– Scrap metal around the house, broken electronics or appliances.
– Auto shop dumpsters- get permission before trespassing though.
Before you start do a safety check on all of your equipment. Make sure snips and cutters are sheathed when not being used. Make sure all handheld machining tools (grinders) that their wires are not cut or worn. Lastly make sure you have the proper clothing-long sleeves, goggles and did I mention gloves.
When working with scrap metal art, you’ll work with metals that are fairly common and pose no danger from touching or minor inhalation. If you come across something your not familiar with, have it checked out at your local scrapyard before cutting into it.
After you finish your project, you will have to dull down sharp and rough edges. After that, you should clean surfaces and sand them if you want to paint the project. Otherwise, you can leave the bare metal.
