What Prepared Scrap Metal Is

Some seasoned scrappers know exactly what prepared scrap metal is, but knowing we get plenty of novice scrappers reading our post, we thought we could clarify a few things and overall make their journey into scrap metals sales a little easier. Because we all know, finding, separating and selling scrap metal is not easy but can be very profitable if done right and consistently.

What Prepared Scrap Metal Is

Prepared scrap metal is very basic and can sometimes mean multiple things. Primarily prepared scrap metal is metals that have been pre prepped for sale and generally in its cleanest form possible. Many dealers prefer their scrap purchases be prepared by length weight and/or other possible measurements.

the most important part of prepared scrap is that it is cleaned. If scrap is not cleaned properly , sometimes it cannot be accepted or, it will yield a lower price per pound. Either way, there’s no point in making the effort to pick for scrap and show up and get nothing for it, it defeats the purpose. Cleaning isn’t about dirt or other natural elements, it is about the other parts of the metal that may be attached or are another alloy that does not belong and may get a different price.

It is best to take your scrap, and go through a sorting process prior to arriving at the scrap yard . Take your metals and look to strip wiring, the wiring itself can bring a separate price for you as well. Also remove all nuts, bolts and any other materials that may be different or you may be collecting to turn in. Always keep apprised of which metals your local yard will accept and how they want it prepared. It will take less valuable time away at the yard and ultimately get you the best price available.
