Ever wonder where the talent and vision comes from in the art world? Sure, everyone does…especially those of us who can’t create such amazing pieces of work. Everyday though, thousands of us try. Many people everyday pick up a brush, a knife or even a blow torch and become an artist. Our industry is no different, amateur scrap metal art has become widely recognized in all parts of the world.

You can find scrap metal art and artist all over the internet, even sites like ours. Amateur scrap metal art, though probably more obscure, is no less prolific. To find amateur scrap metal art, you have to dig, in your local markets, sometimes the side streets in your more industrial areas…and even online. We tend to sometimes find them on the sides of our roads, along old route 66 selling their personal work as proudly as if it were placed in a showroom in New York or Los Angeles. Welder and Utah resident Malen Pierson. He started 20 years ago in his garage tinkering and welding small pieces together. Today, he sells pieces all over the world and was even commissioned by The Sundance Film Festival for his work. Malen started as most do though, tinkering and thinking, then ultimately creating. Everyone’s an amateur at the start, it’s the starting that is difficult.

As we said before, artist and inventors just take what is around us, and create from that point. Start by taking the worst piece of junk you can find in your home, and try to turn it into something beautiful, just for you. You will probably find that others that appreciate the beauty in art will feel the same as you do. At that point, it is quite possible you are an artist as well.
